The Oilseed Oil Producers Association of Bulgaria was founded on 24 October 1994 when it was registered with the Sofia City Court.

The Oilseed Oil Producers Association is a collective member of the Bulgarian Industrial Association (BIA) alongside with the other professional unions from the food industry. Through the BIA the Oil Producers Association represents the employers in the tripartite commission - the Government, the trade unions and the employers. Тhere are about thirty collective members - private companies as at this moment. The membership incorporates also individual members. Their subject of activity includes: buying up and processing of oil seeds, production of refined vegetable oils, seed meals, margarine, mayonnaise, soaps, detergents and other oil products. The main production of the collective members is sunflower-seed oil. Some small quantities of corn oil, soybean oil and rapeseed oil are produced too.

The principal objectives and functions of the Oil Producers Association are as follows:

	to support its members by protecting their production, trade and business interests;
	to assist the development and preparation of legal regulations and documents;
	to realize the agency before the regional and central institutions in Bulgaria including the international organizations;
	to organize and provide information - catalogues and offers related to the principal activities of its members;
	to provide those of its members taking interest in with the information received and available;
	to organize lectures, seminars, discussions, exhibitions, and exchange of experience with Bulgarian and foreign firms as well as establishing business contacts between the companies concerned.
